Best Careers in the Film Industry

Movies have been with us for the past century or so and people have often dreamed of being movie stars. Some make it, some don’t but you should realize that acting is not the only job you can have in the movie industry.

There are plenty of other jobs in the industry which pay a lot, so take a look at some of them.

Director

This is probably one of the most important roles in the film industry. Usually the most present and vocal person on set, they are celebrated when things go right and take the blame when things go south. They often influence who is going to be cast in a movie as well as managing many other things on set.

Plenty of directors can make audiences come to the theaters based on nothing else but their name and the movies they already made. Just hearing Tarantino, James Cameron, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay, not to mention Christopher Nolan or a legend like Kubrick. For example, Peter Jackson of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit series is worth 2.1 billion dollars. It is a lucrative job when done right.

Producer

Just below the director when it comes to money, producers are also paid loads of cash if their job is done right. Producers do everything, from selecting a script for the movie to coordinating the writing, music, directing and editing and even finance.

There are many producers who are well-known today, starting with George Lucas himself, the creator of the Star Wars universe. Jerry Bruckheimer also comes to mind, who worked on the Pirates of the Caribbean as well as Armageddon and National Treasure and even Top Gun. They are worth a lot of money today so a good producer is worth as much as a director and is absolutely essential in order to make a movie great.

Screenwriter

If the director doesn’t take the blame and the producer manages to dodge it somehow, then comes the screenwriter. Some screenwriters go around from studio to studio, writing and selling scripts barely to break even and stay afloat while others get rich from one single movie. While it might not be that much of a risk, it definitely can pay well.

Just take a look at Charlie Kaufman who was behind amazing projects like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Synecdoche, New York.

There are more jobs to look towards in the film industry if making money is your goal. Art directors, editors, CG animators and lawyers, oh yes, lawyers, all make a lot of money. No dream will come true by itself, working for it is necessary, especially in the movie industry.
